He has been doing really well lately. We went to Water Country with some friends and he had a blast. He didn't mind the little ones being there either.
In therapy last week, when Monica came in the door he ran and sat right down on the floor where they do therapy. This is huge considering 7 months ago when she first started coming most of the time was spent with him throwing a fit because he didn't want her there. We used to have to block him in a corner because he would wander off and now he just sits right down and does what he needs to do and.....gasps....enjoys it!!!! lol!
He also pointed at something he wanted the other day. Once again, sounds so small to some, but this is huge for him. He is coming around. He is also starting to understand how to play catch with the ball.
For those of you who don't know Alex on a daily basis, he LOVES to walk at the park. He could care less about the slide, swings, etc...just let the boy run and he is happy.....UNTIL TODAY! he finally noticed a play area with slides and walked right over to them and went down it multiple times and was having so much fun! These are huges steps for him in his social and play skills, and we are so happy to see him improving each day. He also accepted a toy from a little friend of his who was sharing his boat...also a big deal. He usually hates having other kids around and to have one of them approach him to play is usually the end of the world. He still wasn't "happy" about it, but he took the boat without throwing it or a fit! :)
It seems like there have been a few other things, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
He is still having some bad days (bad days usually being around other kids) though and that makes it REALLY frustrating for us. We get so excited at the progress he is making and then when he has a set back it is devastating. But my friend Amy said it right, the good times now are just glimpses of what it WILL BE LIKE in the future. We just have to get him there!
These are a few pics of him finally having fun at Chuck E. Cheese!

thats so cool! I think you guys are doing so well with him and it's so exciting to see some of your work paying off. Alex is better and better everytime I see him, and everytime you write about him. All of those milestones ARE big deals and it just shows how much he is coming out of his own world, and into ours! so cool. :)
ReplyDeleteThe struggle you have been through has been trying to say the least but if you are better than you were 7 months ago progress is being made in the right directions. You need to keep in mind Alex's age also. I don't know too many 2-5 year olds and sometimes even older than that that have bad days with temper tantrams and noncooperation. It is part of the package of being a kid designed by God to try our patiences. Getting glimpses of what the future holds is exciting and shows you the real Alex that is still hiding somewhere inside and is waiting to bloom like a beautiful flower. Don't lose sight that like many beautiful flowers there will be thorns along the way but well worth the care when they bloom to their fullest capacity. Some day Big Al will bloom and this time of anguish will be but a dream. Will continue to pray for your family and hold you dearly in my heart.
ReplyDeleteThank you ladies! He has done so well and we are so proud of him. Beth it is funny, because he is 2.5 and we are just now seeing the real "2 year old" in him! lol! I guess we are lucky in some cases! :) I appreciate all the kind words and prayers...they keep me going! ;)
